Barbara Jean “BJ” Sullivan, 76, passed away peacefully at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA on November 14, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on August 2, 1948, BJ was known for her compassionate heart and generous spirit.

Barbara is joined in death by her beloved husband, Richard Wesley Sullivan Sr., her parents, Mary Esther Geris (Kearnes) and John Lawrence Geris, and her brothers Randy, Warren, and Tommy Geris.

She is survived by her three sons: Richard Wesley Sullivan Jr., Russell Warren Sullivan (Anita), and Randall William Sullivan (Julie); seven cherished grandchildren: Ashlie Lauren Heatwole (Adam), Kyle Wesley Sullivan (Faith), Katherine Elizabeth Sullivan, Emily Ann Keller (Tristin), Audrey Lynn Sullivan, Madison Lee Sullivan, and Mckinzie Esther Sullivan; her brothers Johnny and Marty Geris; and sisters Mary “Susan” Bailey and Nancy Workman. She is also survived by her beloved Yorkie, Oliver.

BJ was born in the town of Jeffersonton, VA, and graduated in 1966 from Osbourne Senior High School in Manassas, VA. Just a year later, on June 3, 1967, she married her soulmate, Richard. Professionally, BJ served as the Office Manager for the Department of Taxation in Mount Vernon, VA, and later at Fairfax County’s Department of Taxation as an Administrative Assistant III until her retirement. She always put everyone around her first and her memory will live on in the lives she touched.

Now reunited with her loving husband, Barbara can rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she gave so freely in life.

A graveside service will be conducted at 12 PM on Thursday, November 21 at National Memorial Park in Falls Church.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, November 20 at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, VA.
