AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Augusta County authorities are reporting that multiple phone scams have been circulating around using the Sheriff’s Office and Circuit Court phone numbers.

According to a news release, the SCAM call states that there is an active arrest warrant for someone or there is a missed court date, or someone needs to post bail.

The caller will instruct the victim to deposit money through CashApp, Bitcoin, or purchase prepaid cards.

Sheriff’s Lieutenant Leslie Snyder stresses that all of these are scam calls and to not give out any personal information or bank account information.

She added that government agencies will never call asking for this kind of information nor provide instructions for wiring or depositing money.
