AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – On February 24, 2025, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brian K. Karicofe, 49, of Verona, for knowingly possessing child pornography.
The arrest follows an investigation that began on February 7, 2025, after the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possible sexual exploitation of minors.
During the investigation, investigators obtained evidence leading to 10 felony charges for possession of child pornography. On February 24, deputies responded to Karicofe’s residence to serve the arrest warrants. Upon arrival, Karicofe refused to surrender and engaged in a brief standoff with Deputies. After negotiation tactics were utilized, Karicofe was taken into custody without further incident. Karicofe was transported to Middle River Regional Jail and is currently being held without bond.
“This case highlights the critical role of partnerships with organizations like NCMEC in protecting children from exploitation,” said Sheriff Donald Smith in a news release. “Our deputies acted swiftly and professionally to ensure the safe resolution of the situation and the arrest of the suspect.”
Karicofe was charged with 10 counts of knowingly possessing child pornography.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be obtained as the investigation concludes.
