AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A juvenile is being charged after a high-speed chase ensued last week.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office says that on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at approximately 8:10 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle travelling over 70 mph in a posted 45 mph zone in the 3000 block of Stuarts Draft Highway. When the deputy activated their emergency equipment, the suspect vehicle, a 2023 Hyundai sedan, accelerated and attempted to elude the deputy.

The pursuit continued across Draft Avenue, onto Hodge Street, Lake Road, and back onto Howardsville Turnpike. The vehicle then left the roadway and traveled into a field off Patton Farm Road before eventually stopping in the area of Mt. Vernon Road and Stuarts Draft Highway.

Deputies identified the driver as a 17-year-old juvenile. In accordance with law, the juvenile’s name will not be released. Numerous charges are pending.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind parents to educate their children that eluding law enforcement is a felony offense and inherently dangerous, placing the juvenile, innocent motorists, the community, and law enforcement personnel at significant risk and to use this incident as a harsh reality that these choices have major consequences.
