AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — An Augusta County deputy was shot while attempting to arrest a wanted subject on Wednesday night.
Sheriff Donald Smith says that at approximately 8:38 PM Augusta County Sheriff’s Office deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect in the 800 Block of Parkersburg Turnpike. When the deputies arrived, they encountered the wanted suspect, and a physical altercation occurred. A Deputy was shot in the upper arm area during the altercation. The Deputy was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment.
The Sheriff says he has turned the scene and the investigation over to the Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Appomattox Division.
