AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Augusta County Sheriff’s deputies involved in a fatal shooting last month will not be charged.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Tim Martin issued a statement today, January 7, 2026, exonerating the deputies in the December 17th shooting death of Dustin Griffin in the 800 Block of Parkersburg Turnpike.
In his statement, Martin wrote that while deputies were trying to arrest Griffin, a physical struggle ensued.
Griffin then reached into his clothing and retrieved a firearm. He pointed at one of the deputies and fired, striking the deputy in the arm.
Another deputy who was standing nearby, shot and killed Griffin, who was wanted on charges of repeat-offense drug dealing.
