HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Asbury United Methodist Church celebrated Scout Sunday with members of Troop 40 taking part in worship and service activities, continuing a long-standing tradition that connects Scouts with their chartering organizations and local congregations.

Troop 40, which has been associated with Asbury for 97 years and is now chartered by the Rion-Bowman VFW Post, participated in the morning service and served a pancake breakfast for the congregation.

The event also highlighted the contributions of longtime volunteer Kemper Dadisman, who was recognized with two honors for his decades of service to Scouting and the broader community. Scouting America presented Dadisman with a 40-year service pin in recognition of his work mentoring youth through the program.

In addition, Dadisman received the Community Builder Award from Rockingham Union Lodge No. 27 on behalf of the Grand Lodge of Virginia. The award is given to non-Masons who have made significant contributions to their communities. Organizers noted that Dadisman’s mentorship and leadership have positively influenced generations of Scouts.

The award was presented by Matt Phillippi, Worshipful Master of the lodge and council commissioner for the Virginia Headwaters Council.
