BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s basketball team picked up a 71-59 victory over Hollins on Saturday afternoon behind massive games from Jaden Alsberry and Jay Garcia.

Records: Bridgewater 19-4 (12-2 ODAC), Hollins 11-11 (4-10 ODAC)

How It Happened
• Hollins struck first, but it took BC over 90 seconds to get on the board as a second-chance effort by Alsberry got the offense going. Alsberry’s bucket started an 11-0 BC run capped off by a Garcia bucket to take an 11-2 lead thanks to 10 combined points from the two BC posts. Hollins quickly closed back in as the home side went on a 10-2 run to close back to within a point at 13-12. The sides traded scores before an India Dailey three-pointer and a pair of free throws by Riley Corcoran pushed the lead back to six. A Cabria Mutz score by HU cut it to a 20-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
• It took over two minutes before either side struck in the second quarter as a second-chance effort by Jaiden Polston broke the drought. Hollins replied with a three-pointer of its own and then both defenses took over as each team went a combined 0-for-8 before a Second chance effort by Alsberry three minutes later put BC in front by five. The Eagles extended the lead to six at 28-22 after another Alsberry put-back make, but six-straight points from Hollins tied the game with just over a minute to play in the half. A Garcia make and a pair of free throws by My’la Green put BC in front by four, but a score by Hollins at the horn made it 32-30 in favor of BC at the break.
• Hollins took the lead for the first time since the opening minutes with a three-pointer out of the break and the teams started trading the lead with back-to-back scores before a Garcia put-back and a Corcoran score started a 9-0 BC run that saw Hollins go scoreless for nearly four minutes and the Eagles take a 43-35 lead midway through the third stanza. Hollins repaid the favor with a 7-0 run of its own that kept BC off the scoreboard for over three minutes before two makes by Corcoran at the free throw line ended the drought. Hollins replied with a make, but that was their last of the quarter from the floor as BC outscored HU 8-4 over the final two minutes of the frame capped off by another Dailey three-pointer to make it 53-48 after three quarters.
• Autumn Gentry opened the fourth quarter with a make from beyond the arc and the sophomore didn’t stop there as her eight points over the opening four minutes of the fourth quarter fueled a 12-3 Bridgewater run to blow the game open to a 65-51 scoreline with five minutes to play. Hollins got back on the board and found some rhythm offensively as the two sides traded scores down the stretch, but the big run to open the quarter proved to be the difference as BC emerged victorious 71-59.

Match Notes
• Alsberry and Garcia led BC as the duo combined for 30 points and 32 rebounds. Alsberry’s 18 boards are the most by an Eagle this season in a single game and ties the seventh most in a game in program history as she tallied her 22nd double-double of her career.
• Zaria Holden led Hollins with 16 points and Sarah Morales added 15 in addition for HU.
• The fourth quarter was the difference maker. As BC was 46.7% from the floor and Hollins shot just 16.7% in the final 10 minutes. The Eagles also registered 55 rebounds as team, the second highest tally of the season as a squad.
