HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg Fire Department were forced to shut down Charles Street between North Main and Jefferson Streets to combat a structure fire.

Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the residential area around 10:30 this morning.

Deputy Chief of Operations Ben Zimmerman said, “When we arrived, we found a fire in the basement that had extended into the walls up through the first floor.”

Although the fire was relatively small, Zimmerman noted that the family will be displaced until repairs on the home can be made.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The fire’s cause is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
