AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — UPDATE 10:15am — ACSO has determined there is no credible threat to schools, students, or staff. Activities and schedules will resume in schools accordingly. Officials say Augusta County Public Schools will handle this as a personnel matter. The physical and emotional safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. There will be an increase in law enforcement presence in and around the Fort Defiance Campus today out of an abundance of caution. The investigation is concluded, and ACSO will be reviewing the case with the Augusta County Commonwealth Attorney to see if charges are appropriate.
Original story: The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a call this morning regarding chatter of a possible organized attack at Fort Defiance High School.
According to Sheriff Donald Smith, additional units have been deployed to the Fort Defiance campus out of an abundance of caution, and officers are working closely with school administration to determine the source and credibility of this information.
“We want to assure the community that our deputies are on scene and monitoring the situation,” Smith said.
At this time, there is no confirmed threat to students, staff, or the public.
