HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Oklahoma-based singer-songwriter John Moreland will perform at The Golden Pony on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with special guest Ramsey Thornton.
Moreland has established himself as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Americana. Known for his deeply emotional songwriting and powerful live performances, Moreland’s journey from punk rock roots to folk-rock prominence has earned him praise from The New York Times, Fresh Air, and Pitchfork. His latest album “Visitor” (2024) showcases his return to a raw, intimate sound that longtime fans will recognize.
Originally from Longview, Texas, Moreland grew up in a working-class family, teaching himself guitar and performing his first show in his early teens. His evolution from hardcore punk bands to heartfelt Americana has produced several acclaimed albums, including “High on Tulsa Heat” and “Birds in the Ceiling”.
Miranda Lambert has praised Moreland’s authenticity, saying “I discovered John Moreland’s music during a time in my life when I felt all alone. His songs taught me that it’s okay to be honest about your feelings”.
