KEEZLETOWN, VA (Rocktown Now) – A kennel went up in flames earlier today in Rockingham County.

At 7:28 this morning (January 2nd), Battalion Chief Clay Shiflet reported that crews were dispatched to the 3,000 block of Haines Quarter Road in Keezletown to find a dog kennel ablaze.

“Crews pulled out probably 5 or 6 dogs that weren’t already out, that the homeowners had gotten out, so they went in and pulled out a couple,” Shiflet said. “We were able to save all but one dog.”

Additional units from Harrisonburg, Broadway, and New Market helped Rockingham County personnel contain most of the fire in 20 minutes and assist in overhaul and salvage efforts in the fire’s aftermath.

Shiflet said he believes the 20-by-30 kennel to be a total loss due to the extent of the damage.

No other structures were affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
