Lewis Rhodes Driver, 76, a resident of Rockingham, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville.

Mr. Driver was born on November 11, 1947 in Waynesboro and was a son of the late Fred Abraham and Ethel Blair May Driver.  He graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in 1967 and served in Voluntary Service in Pueblo Colorado from 1968-70.  He retired as a plumber from Eastern Mennonite University and later drove a school bus for Rockingham County for 8 years. He was a member of Grace Covenant Church and supported missions there.

On April 16, 1971, he married Rhea Bowman Driver who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Cindy Nichols and husband David of Rockingham; Brent Driver and wife Heather of South Carolina; grandchildren, Abigail Nichols, Nicholas Driver, Matthew Nichols, Lillian Driver, Joshua Nichols, Della Driver, Jacob Nichols and Sarah Nichols.

Mr. Driver was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Driver Birchfield; and a brother, James Driver.

Lewis loved life and was an encouragement to others. His infectious smile and warm, friendly nature drew people to him. In retirement, one of his great joys was being a friendly face to the students on his bus. He was also passionate about healthy living and gardening with his wife. He loved God, his wife, his family and others.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Grace Covenant Church. The family will receive friends at a luncheon following the service.

At his request, the body was cremated.
