RICHMOND, Va – Donations from business executives, attorneys and corporate interests ranging from real estate to gambling helped power Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin’s main fundraising arm to a record-breaking nearly $2.7 million haul in the year’s first quarter.
That is according to campaign finance filings made this week. Despite being prohibited from seeking donations for much of the first quarter because of the legislative session, Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia political action committee surpassed its own prior quarterly record and those of previous governors.
Legislative candidates also filed their reports this week, which offered an early snapshot of legislative matchups. All 140 legislative seats are on the ballot this year.
A New York Times article this week stated that Youngkin will not seek a Presidential run next year so he can concentrate on those General Assembly races in November.
