STANLEY, Va – An overnight “mountain fire” that created a frightening scene along Dovel Hollow Road in Page County is now under control.

Stanley firefighters were called to the scene in the 2100 block of Dovel Hollow around 6-30 Monday night. Fire Chief Terry Pettit said his crews fought the spreading fire for nearly 12 hours.

The chief explained that flames from a burning building at a nearby property spread into the woods, causing the blaze to climb up the mountainside.

Pettit said roughly 50 acres of forest were burned – down from an original estimate of 80 to 100 acres.
