WASHINGTON, DC – Tenth District Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton has announced that she will not seek re-election.

The Northern Virginia Democrat made the announcement Monday morning in a tweet stating that her doctors have diagnosed her with Progressive Supra-Nuclear Palsy, which is a kind of Parkinson’s on steroids, as she put it.

She was initially diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease back in April and said at the time she said she was discussing treatment with her doctors to allow her to function in her congressional work.

However, 54-year-old Wexton stated there is no ‘getting better’ with this new diagnosis and that she plans to continue treatment options to keep her symptoms in check.

She is currently in her third term in Congress.
