WAYNESBORO, Va. — A Waynesboro man is facing six felony charges after authorities discovered dozens of dead and dying animals at an Augusta County property.
In a release this morning, Augusta County sheriff’s lieutenant Leslie Snyder said deputies and animal control officers responded to an anonymous call on Friday about several animals living in deplorable conditions on Augusta Farms Road.
After arriving at the property, two dogs were found living inside a waste-covered vehicle without food or water.
Snyder said a search warrant was obtained for the rest of the property, which led to the discovery of thirteen cats, twenty-eight dogs, and six ducks. All animals were seized by Augusta County Animal Control.
Snyder said that as of June 5th, four cats had to be euthanized and one dog had its leg amputated. Additionally, eight dogs and twenty cats were found deceased throughout the property.
59-year-old Carl Rudolph Lentz was arrested and held without bond on six counts of felony animal cruelty.
Sheriff Donald Smith said the investigation is ongoing.
