A Waynesboro man is behind bars after police say he shot a man and stole a car Monday afternoon.

25-year-old Zaine Anthony Wells Junior was arrested without incident yesterday at the Waynesboro Police Department.

Five of the six charges he faces are felonies, including aggravated malicious wounding and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

Waynesboro Police said they believe Wells shot a man once at the corner of Ohio Street and North Magnolia Avenue just before 3:30 Monday. The individual was taken to U-V-A Medical Center for treatment.

They say Wells then took off in a stolen 2007 Volkswagen.

He’s held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
