The Waynesboro couple charged with murder in the dog-mauling death of their granddaughter have reached a plea deal with prosecutors, resulting in the withdrawal of their trial.

61-year-old Stephen Kachmer and 64-year-old Penny Bashlor were scheduled to begin a five-day jury trial today in Waynesboro Circuit Court. However, online records show Bashlor pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter and cruelty/injury to a child. Kachmer admitted to one count of having a vicious dog resulting in serious injury.

The charges stem from an incident in January 29, 2022, when 7-year-old Olivia Grace Floyd was killed by a 120-pound Rottweiler at the couple’s home on Parker Heights Road.
