Virginia’s ports recorded its two busiest years ever during the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Hampton Roads District Planning Commission, commonwealth docks moved an all-time high of 340-thousand twenty-foot equivalent units twice last year, in both May and August.
Data shows that’s a five-percent increase in shipping traffic over the previous record set in 2021.
Future projections are strong as well, with new infrastructure set for completion next year that would double the ports’ ability to receive “ultra-large container vessels.”
The Planning Commission says this will create jobs and spur further economic development in the state.
