IRVING, Texas – A trio of JMU lacrosse student-athletes took weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference, as Isabella Peterson was named the Attack Player of the Week, Rachel Matey grabbed Defensive Player of the Week and Maddie Epke garnered Freshman of the Week honors on Monday.

Peterson earned her fourth weekly attack honor from the league while both Matey and Epke grabbed their third respective honors this season.

Peterson finished the week with nine goals and added three assists for 12 total points (6.0/game) on the week. She had hat tricks in both games last week, her 10th and 11th this season. She shot 9-for-14 (.642) from the field including a perfect 4-for-4 against No. 23 Richmond while also going 4-for-4 from the free position during the week.

In the circle, the redshirt junior collected six draw controls in each game, leading the Dukes to a 32-19 advantage for the week. Against Richmond, Peterson helped JMU out-draw the Spiders 20-12, doing so against a team with a .598 draw control percentage entering Wednesday.

The redshirt senior Matey took the league’s second straight defensive honor with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers on defense and added 10 total draw controls in the possession game. On Wednesday, she passed Haley Warden for the most draw controls in JMU history and currently has 254 for her career.

Matey captained a defense that allowed just 5.5 goals per game, including holding Vanderbilt to one on Saturday, JMU’s first one-goal defensive effort since knocking off Wofford on 21-1 on March 12, 2021.

Epke had two goals and three assists for the week, with both goals and two assists coming against the 23rd-ranked Spiders. She added five draw controls against Richmond and totaled six for the week.

All three players rank in the top 10 in The American in draw controls per game, as Peterson ranks 5th (4.29), Matey 6th (4.07) and Epke 9th (3.21). As a team, JMU is 20th in the country at .567 in draw controls.
