The teacher and J-M-U alum who was shot by a first-grade student over two months ago is speaking out for the first time.

That’s Abigail Zwerner appearing on NBC News. It’s her first public interview since being shot through the hand and chest at a Newport News elementary school on January 6th.

The 25-year-old said she underwent four surgeries during a weeks-long stay in the hospital, but added that it’s still hard for her to get out of bed sometimes.

A prosecutor revealed last week the state will not file charges against the six-year-old shooter.
