AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va – Virginia State Police have released the name of the teenager who died over the weekend in a single-vehicle crash in Augusta County.

Spokesperson Shelby Crouch reported that the accident happened shortly after 2 am Saturday when a 2001 Ford Explorer was traveling south on Hildebrand Circle when it ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned.

A passenger, 18-year-old David Young of Staunton, died at the scene while the driver, 18-year-old Walker Rexrode, also of Staunton, was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Crouch said neither person was wearing a seatbelt and she added that charges are pending since alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
