Harrisonburg City Public Schools staff and parents seem to agree, so far, that altering school start times is a bad idea.
The district presented data pulled from an ongoing survey during a work session.
School board member Deb Fitzgerald said although the “science” suggests students would benefit, changes can’t happen at the expense of family time.
Nearly 73 percent of parents did not approve of moving the first bell; only 17 percent strongly encouraged the changes. Meanwhile, 60 percent of staff said ‘no’ to changing school schedules.
The school board plans to vote on the policy on March 5th.
