The commonwealth Department of Social Services is warning Virginians about a rise in scams targeting people with E-B-T cards.
V-D-S-S said in a release that criminals are getting creative with the tricks they use to steal E-B-T benefits.
Officials say that preventing unauthorized loss of benefits begins with not responding to electronic communication concerning an E-B-T account.
They also advise cardholders to change their PIN number often to limit the effectiveness of “card skimmers,” which can read and save a card number when it’s swiped at checkout.
The agency warned that E-B-T funds cannot be replaced once lost, so it’s important to prevent fraud from ever happening.
