The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired in the 10000 block of McGaheysville Road at approximately 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, it was determined that there had been multiple shots fired and that the shooting was a road rage incident that originated while two vehicles were travelling Eastbound on Route 33.
The victim vehicle turned onto McGaheysville Road, and the suspect vehicle came up behind it at the Island Ford Road intersection and fired multiple rounds at the victim’s vehicle. At least one round struck the vehicle and another struck a nearby residence. Fortunately, there were no injuries from the shooting. The suspect vehicle was a dark colored sedan, uncertain make and model, and the driver was described as a white male with long dark hair.
Deputies searched the surrounding area for the suspect vehicle immediately after the incident and were not able to locate it. Efforts are still ongoing at this time and a full criminal investigation is now underway.
