HARRISONBURG, Va. — After more than three weeks, an open-air burn ban in Rockingham County has been lifted.

Rockingham County Fire and Rescue Chief Jeremy Holloway and Harrisonburg Fire Chief Matt Tobia said in a joint notice that the ban was rescinded as of 7 o’clock this morning.

They said that although burning is now permitted again, folks should still be cautious when lighting that fire and make sure to follow safety guidelines in their local jurisdiction.

Open-air burns had been stamped out since September 5th, at the height of this summer’s drought.
