BRIDGEWATER, Va.– Lauren Roberts netted nine goals, which is the most in a single game for the Bridgewater College women’s lacrosse team in nearly 40 years as the Eagles overcame Marymount, 18-16, at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kaity Petersheim put the Eagles in front less than two minutes into the contest with an unassisted tally, but Arayla Garcia responded for the Saints to tie the game up at 1-1 with 12:43 left in the first quarter.Petersheim and Garcia exchanged goals for a second time just a few minutes later as the game stayed event until the 4:43 mark when Roberts got on the scoresheet for the first time with a free-position goal, 3-2 Eagles.
• Taylor Chepren got the goal back for Marymount just seconds later, but Roberts registered a pair of consecutive scores to give the Eagles a 5-3 advantage after the opening 15 minutes.
• Aunnie Hacker found a seam and got a pass from Ashley Venit to start off the scoring in the second quarter to put BC up by three, 6-3. The Saints mounted a comebck with three-straight scores in just three minutes to tie the contest back up at 6-6.Annika Benson broke the draw with an unassisted tally at the 8:37 mark of the quarter, but Ella Baker found the back of the cage on a free-position shot to tie the game once again before Kaleigh Dunham put MU up 8-7 with 7:14 left in the stanza. Madeline Magill, Grace Pietro and Roberts all struck again for Bridgewater before the end of the half as the home side held a 10-9 advantage at the break.
• Baker tied the game less than 40 seconds after the start of the third, but once again the Eagles went ahead on a Petersheim strike. The back-and-forth continued as each side exchanged goals until a goal scoring stretch from Jenna Entsminger, Magill and Roberts gave the Crimson & Golf a 15-12 edge with 3:42 to go in the third. Peters scored twice in a row to get Marymount back into it, but Roberts scored again on a free-position attempt to maintain the two-goal edge. Baker scored in a man-up situation following a yellow card to Bridgewater, but Roberts sealed the contest with two more goals over the game’s final six minutes. Marymount scored one late, but the Eagles held on for an 18-16 win.
GAME STATS
• A historic effort from Roberts ended with nine goals on 10 total shots, including a perfect 5-for-5 on free-position attempts by the junior. Roberts matches the second-highest goal total for a single-game in program history and nets nine for the first time in 37 years. She is just the third player to score nine goals in the team’s 55 year history with this being the fifth occasion the mark was met.
• In addition to the goal-scoring excellence, Roberts grabbed eight draw controls to put herself into third in the team’s career listing for the statistic. She now sits at 153 draws for her career after setting the single-season mark with 96 last season.
• Not to be outdone, Petersheim netted a hat trick to go with five draw controls of her own, while Hacker finished with four points on a goal and three assists. Magill and Benson each finished with a pair of points, while Pietro, Entsminger and Venit all had one point apiece.
• Defensively, Tavin Krick and Faith Bartos each had two caused turnovers, while Roberts, Magill and Rachael Robinson also forced turnovers on the day. Bartos also finished with a team-high four ground balls.
• Robinson made 11 saves in all 60 minutes, while Hannah Smith stopped a pair of shots in 50 minutes before giving way to Devin Bautz in the final 10 minutes of the contest. Bautz also made one stop.
• As a team, Marymount outshot Bridgewater 32-22 and an 18-16 advantage in ground balls.
• Bridgewater avenges a 21-4 loss to Marymount from just a season ago.
