Commonwealth residents who received special pandemic relief are now welcome to file their taxes.
The I-R-S announced late last week that taxpayers in 21 states, including Virginia, will not report Covid relief payments on their federal returns.
The decision comes after some confusion last Friday, when the I-R-S asked taxpayers to delay filing their taxes while it considered whether the special payments should be considered “income.”
Certain Virginians will also avoid paying federal taxes on state-issued Covid relief. This includes people who received their relief in the form of a tax return and claimed standard deductions.
