LURAY, Va. — A public meeting is scheduled where campers who use Shenandoah National Park can sound off on a new permitting system for those who prefer to rough it.

Set for 7 o’clock one week from today, the virtual meeting will allow the public to question park officials about the proposed system for “backcountry camping.”

They say the fee-based permitting process would be dual-purpose, allowing officials to track and better understand the use of this rugged, remote land while raising money to maintain and manage these sections of the park.
