A Page County poultry house was heavily damaged by an early morning fire yesterday, possibly causing half-a-million dollars in damage.

Stanley Fire Chief Terry Pettit said in a release that crews were called to the fire at Pine Grove Farm just after four o’clock Monday morning. He explained that the blaze began in the middle of the 400-foot building and was quickly spreading outward.

According to Pettit, crews contained the fire before it could consume the entire building. Owner Gary Cubbage, a grower for Shenandoah Valley Organic, said the price tag for repairs and lost poultry could hit 500-thousand dollars.

The exact cause of the blaze remains unclear.
