HARRISONBURG, Va – A high-speed chase through the valley landed a North Carolina man in jail.
The pursuit began shortly before noon Mon when a Virginia State Police trooper tried to stop a Ford Taurus for an expired tag at the Port Republic Road exit in Harrisonburg and the car failed to stop.
Sergeant Brent Coffey reports that the pursuit reached speeds of up to 115 miles per hour on Intestate 81 through Shenandoah County and then onto Interstate 66 into Warren County where a state trooper positioned his patrol vehicle in front of the Ford in an attempt to contain the vehicle.
The Ford collided with the trooper’s patrol vehicle which caused the Ford to crash into the median on Interstate 66 at the 7-mile marker.
Several suspects then fled on foot into the nearby Wal-Mart but were found a short time later.
The driver, 24-year-old Marquilis Boyd of Charlotte, North Carolina was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond.
Coffey stated that multiple narcotics along with two handguns were recovered at the scene and one of those handguns was reported stolen from Richmond.
