WINCHESTER, Va. — It is three years on probation and an $879 fine for the Mount Jackson man accused of sexually assaulting two underage girls several years ago.
Devin Patterson was scheduled to begin a two-day jury trial in Winchester Circuit Court today. However, online records show that the trial was canceled after he entered an Alford plea last Tuesday.
An Alford plea authorizes the court to declare a defendant guilty, while allowing that defendant to admit no fault in the crime.
Patterson was facing five felony charges after assaulting the teens multiple times between June 2016 and November 2017.
He was ultimately sentenced to ten years in prison on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, with all ten years suspended.
As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors declined to pursue three additional charges.
