ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va – A suspect in a homicide from Connecticut is dead from a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson reports that shortly after 11 am Tuesday, deputies received a “be on the lookout” for a suspect who was believed to be headed to South Carolina.

A short time later, Hutcheson said a deputy located the vehicle in question on Interstate 81 southbound near the Broadway/Mauzy exit.

Hutcheson added that following a short pursuit, the vehicle, which had a South Carolina license plate, pulled over onto the right shoulder at around mile marker 254.

Deputies and Virginia State Police secured the scene and shortly after, it was determined that the man suffered a fatal, self-inflicted gunshot wound. His identity was not released.

The incident snarled traffic for several hours and forced authorities to divert vehicles off the interstate at the Broadway exit.
