RICHMOND, Va – The Virginia Lottery has released its report on sports wagering activity for January.

During the month, Virginians wagered nearly 653 million dollars, which was more than 27 percent higher than last January.

Bettors won over 578 million for a combined 11.39 percent operators win percentage.

State law places a 15 percent tax on sports betting activity based on each permit holder’s adjusted gross revenue.

That means nearly 10 million dollars in tax payments were generated for the state of which 248-thousand goes to the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund Allocation.
