IRVING, Texas – Following a key top-10 victory in its first ever American Athletic Conference game, the league has named James Madison’s Isabella Peterson Attack Player of the Week and attacker Maddie Epke Freshman of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon.
Peterson grabbed her third individual honor of the season and Epke her second, as JMU secured its ninth and 10th weekly awards from the league.
The redshirt junior Peterson netted a hat trick and added an assist for a total of four points Saturday, marking her seventh hat trick of the season. She was key in the draw circle as well, grabbing seven for the Dukes.
Peterson ranks third in the country in total goals (39) and goals per game (4.33), tied for fifth in points (46) and tied for ninth in points per game (5.11). She leads The American in both goal statistics, is currently second in points and is also fifth in draw controls per game (4.44).
Epke had a big day distributing the ball with four assists on the afternoon, joining fellow attacker Katelyn Morgan in that effort. She added two draw controls on the day.
The Guilford, Conn. native has 14 assists, 22 points and 31 draw controls for the season, ranking inside the top 20 in the league for each statistic.
Saturday’s victory over No. 8 Florida moved the Dukes up to No. 5 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll, the fourth consecutive week the Dukes have improved their ranking in the coaches’ poll.
JMU faces a pair of tests this week, first at home against No. 12 Virginia on Wednesday at 5 p.m. before hitting the road to face Temple on Saturday at noon.
