CONWAY, S.C. – James Madison softball started conference play with a 3-2 walk-off loss against Coastal Carolina Friday evening in Conway, S.C.

The Dukes dropped to 13-7 on the season while the Chanticleers advanced to 24-4.

Junior Alissa Humphrey recorded her 10th start of the season for James Madison, working all seven innings, and tossing three strikeouts.

Graduate student Hannah Shifflett led the offense with two hits while sophomore Kylee Gleason added a hit and two RBI’s. Freshman Kate Carrier also snagged a hit during tonight’s contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Carrier ripped a single to left field. Shifflett then doubled to move Carrier to third base.
• Gleason hit a sacrifice fly to score both Carrier and Shifflett to put the Dukes up by two runs.
• Coastal Carolina hit a home run in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to one.
• In the seventh inning, Coastal Carolina loaded the bases and won the game from a walk-off double.
