HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison softball took #25 Louisiana to extra innings but came up short in an 8-4 loss Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
JMU falls to 20-8 overall with a 5-2 mark in Sun Belt play. Meanwhile, UL will advance to 24-10 (6-1 SBC).
Graduate student Hallie Hall led the way at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored and one RBI.
Graduate students Hannah Shifflett and Avery Pinder and freshmen KK Mathis and Bella Henzler added a hit apiece to today’s contest.
How It Happened
• Louisiana got off to a hot start when they tallied two runs in the first inning.
• JMU answered quickly in the bottom of the first inning with home runs from Shifflett and H. Hall to even things up at two runs for each team.
• The Dukes took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when redshirt junior Reed Butler reached on an error while Kamryn Nash and H. Hall ran home for a 4-2 lead.
• Louisiana tied things up again in the top of the sixth inning off a two-run homer.
• The Ragin’ Cajuns broke things open in the top of the eighth inning when they piled on four runs off two home runs to secure the win, 8-4.

The Dukes are back in action for the second game of the series against the Ragin’ Cajuns Saturday at noon at Veterans Memorial Park.
