HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – James Madison softball dropped its first game to Marshall 10-2 in six innings of play on Friday afternoon at Dot Hicks Field.

The Dukes fell to 23-15 and 8-8 in Sun Belt play, while the Thundering Herd moved to 37-6 with a 12-2 mark against league competition.

Freshman Kylah Berry pitched 3.1 innings of work, recording one strikeout, two walks, and three runs.

Freshman Bella Henzler led the way at the plate with two hits, while graduate student Hallie Hall executed one hit and two RBI’s.

Graduate Hannah Shifflett and freshman KK Mathis each noted a hit.

How It Happened:
• Marshall plated six runs in the bottom of the second inning from a wild pitch, a two-run home run, two RBI doubles, and an RBI single.
• H. Hall singled in the top of the third inning to plate Mathis and Shifflett.
• The Thundering Herd added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning from a two-run RBI single.
• Marshall extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run single that concluded the game after six innings due to an 8-run rule.

Up Next
The Dukes will get another chance to face Marshall tomorrow at 1 p.m. for its second game of the series at Dot Hicks Field.
