An effort to employ more teachers in Virginia classrooms is on hold, if it hasn’t been ended entirely.
The state has halted a program that doled out diversity teaching grants, and the state Department of Education is now evaluating that program to determine if it will ever continue.
25th District senator Creigh Deeds told our sister station W-I-N-A in Charlottesville that he’s puzzled by the decision.
The 50-thousand-dollar program was designed to help teachers of color who were only provisionally licensed work to obtain a full license.
There was no reason given for its discontinuance.
