HARRISONBURG, Va – For the next four years, Harrisonburg City Public Schools has qualified for a program that provides free meals for all its students – no application necessary.

According to emails obtained by WSVA, Director of School Nutrition Andrea Early said that the school division has re-qualified for the federal Community Eligibility Provision.

It’s a USDA program that provides one free breakfast and lunch per day, per student. Schools in “low-income areas” are eligible, with Washington reimbursing the divisions based on the percentage of students who use other anti-hunger initiatives, like SNAP or the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

Early said that as of now, the funding only applies to student meals; Adult and staff lunches will cost $4.50.
