HARRISONBURG, Va – With a possible budget crisis just weeks away, local activists and politicians are dialing up the pressure on Richmond.

Friday morning, the group Freedom Virginia concluded a five-stop “mobile billboard” tour at the Virginia Democratic Headquarters in Harrisonburg.

It is centered around a one-billion-dollar state budget that would include 4-point-3 million dollars allocated for Harrisonburg City Schools, which constitutes a 689 dollar increase per student.

Harrisonburg Education Association President Andy Thompson said change starts at the grassroots level.

If approved, the group added that the budget would allow Harrisonburg City Schools to hire 51 more staffers.
