Monday night, members of the conservative Freedom Caucus in the U-S House elected Fifth District Representative Bob Good to become its next chairman, according to multiple sources.
The second-term congressman from Lynchburg gained national attention earlier this year when he joined seven other Republicans in voting to remove Kevin McCarthy from the speakership.
The move came with a little controversy, as Freedom Caucus member Warren Davidson, a representative from Ohio, circulated a letter urging fellow members to deny Good the job.
He claimed that Good would “impair” the group’s ability to influence other members of Congress.
Valley Congressman Ben Cline is also a Freedom Caucus member. Good will succeed Pennsylvania’s Scott Perry, who was term-limited.
