STRASBURG, Va – It was a ruptured gas line that caused Tuesday morning’s explosion and fire in the Fisher’s Hill area south of Strasburg.

The incident happened shortly after 8:30 am near the intersection of Battlefield and Copp Roads and flames could be seen for miles.

Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Major Colter Stroup says fortunately no injuries were reported and no structural damage was done.

Officials are now trying to find out what caused the explosion. The line was owned and operated by T-C Energy.

The explosion forced the Virginia Department of Transportation to close a portion of Interstate 81 in both directions for nearly 30 minutes because of debris.
