It is 40 years in prison for an Elkton man who admitted to killing a woman in the fall of 2021.
Kemper Virgil Shifflett received that sentence during a hearing this afternoon in Rockingham County Circuit Court, according to online records.
The 37-year-old Shifflett avoided a trial last May by pleading guilty to an amended charge of second degree murder.
The charge stemmed from an incident on Friday night, October 22nd of 2021 in which sheriff’s deputies were called out to the intersection of Hensley Hollow Road and Forsythia Lane.
Upon arrival, they found 42-year-old Sharon Hilliards of Elkton dead in car. Investigators determined that the incident originated as a domestic dispute between Shiflett and Hilliards.
