WINCHESTER, Va. — Drivers headed south on I-81 through Winchester faced delays as crews performed emergency repairs on a bridge. Traffic backups reached 7-miles at some points.

According to Ken Slack with the Virginia Department of Transportation, the right lane was closed as crews patched a hole in the bridge just south of Exit 317 at the Winchester and Western Railroad.

The Exit 317 entrance ramp from Martinsburg Pike onto I-81 was also closed.

Slack added that this was an emergency response and crews worked into the night to finish the repairs.
