Rockingham County fire officials are investigating what caused a fire that heavily damaged a home early this morning in the Elkton area.

Chief Jeremy Holloway said the call came in just before six o’clock and crews were dispatched to the 18-hundred block of South Eastside Highway.

Holloway said the house was vacant at the time and no injuries were reported.

He added that the fire marshal’s office is working to determine a cause.
