HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Bridgewater College softball team picked up a pair of wins sweeping Eastern Mennonite in a conference doubleheader.
Final Score: (Game 1) Bridgewater 7, EMU 4; (Game 2) Bridgewater 9, EMU 4

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
• McKenna Mueller got the Eagles on the board in the top of the second, crossing the plate on a wild pitch. In the following at-bat, Kaelyn Ramsey and Hannah Mahan came around to score on a fielding error bringing the score to 3-0.
• The Royals quickly struck back in the bottom half of the inning as Emerson Adkins slapped a ball down the right field line to bring in Taylor Umberger, 3-1.
• The Eagles widened the gap in the top of the third as Jordan Wise drove home two runs on a single to center field to make the score 5-1. The Eagles defense shut the door in the bottom of the third recording two quick groundouts and a strikeout tossed by Brantley Swift.
• Rayn Robinson cracked a single through the left side of the infield bringing Umberger across the plate for the Royals setting the score to 5-2.
• The final two runs for the Eagles in game one were scored in the top of the sixth, kicked off by a Torrie Shifflett double to right-center that brought Ramsey across the plate. In the following at-bat, Sarah Wimer laced a single to center field bringing in Shifflet and put the Eagles up 7-2.
• The Royals pushed for a comeback in the bottom of the seventh as Samantha Hensley cracked an RBI double to right center bringing the Royals to within four. Grace Fravel followed with a single to right-center to bring Hensley across the plate to get the Royals within three runs. The comeback efforts fell short, however, on a Becca Boone flyout to end the game.
GAME STATS
• Brantley Swift picked up the win for the Eagles on 4.0 innings pitched bringing her record to 4-4 on the season, while Mackenzie Cauthorn grabbed her first save of the season following 3.0 innings of relief.
• Seven different Eagles recorded hits in game one.
• Mueller had a big day at the dish going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
• Jordan Wise slapped in two RBI in game one.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Eagles got started in a hurry in game two as Wimer knocked a single up the middle to bring home Shifflett who started the inning of with a single to left field in the first at bat of the game.
• The Royals got two runners on in the home half of the first inning with runners on the corners. A ground ball to third held the runner on as Savage threw to first for a force out when a throw to home beat the runner. The original batter thought the inning had ended and left her base prompting a throw over to Lucas at first to complete a triple play.
• Both teams went quiet until the top of the fourth where Wise grounded a ball to the second basemen who made an error allowing Mueller to come home in the process. Two batters later, Shifflett drove a ball to left field bringing Wise across the plate. Brooklynn Fridley recorded a two-run double in the following at bat, driving a ball to left center to put the Eagles up 5-0.
• EMU responded in the bottom of the fourth getting on the board for the first time in game two on a Boone single to right field, bringing Madi Armentrout home. Sarah Hensley scored during the following at bat on a wild pitch bringing the score to 5-2 in favor of the Eagles.
• Morgan Lucas led off the fifth inning for the Eagles, launching an absolute rocket into left center for the solo home run that cleared the cages behind the left-field wall. Andrea Savage slapped a single to center, allowing Mueller to make her way home and score on an obstruction as the catcher blocked the plate. Sarah Kate Tozier crossed the plate for the Eagles on a wild pitch putting the Eagles up 8-2.
• The Royals immediately responded in the bottom of the fifth as Reese Rodgers crossed the plate on an error from the center fielder. Boone stroked an RBI single up the middle to bring Armentrout across the plate and set the score to 8-4.
• The Eagles slammed the door on the Royals in the late innings as Mahan was brought home on a Shifflett double to left field and Elena Williams entered the circle to close for the Eagles.
GAME STATS
• Erica Nelson picked up her fourth win in the circle for the Eagles allowing just three hits in her relief effort. Samantha Martin got the start and went 3.2 innings.
• Shifflett went 3-for-4 at the dish recording two RBI in the nightcap.
• Lucas added to her ODAC leading home run total as she sits with eight on the season.
• Fridley had a two RBI performance.
• Wimer and Savage both registered RBIs in game two.

The Eagles return home Saturday, April 15 to take on Guilford in a conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
