MOUNT JACKSON, Va. — Shenandoah County authorities say that nearly 100 severely malnourished horses were removed from a farm in Mount Jackson late last week.
According to Shenandoah County sheriff Tim Carter, animal control deputies responded to a complaint on Thursday regarding the horses living in poor conditions on Quicksburg Road.
In a social media post, Carter said the officers found several malnourished horses with hip bones and ribs showing through little fat cover. The living conditions were deemed inadequate for the horses, and they were seized from the property.
The sheriff said his office is partnering with the Office of the Attorney General for an investigation.
No arrests have been announced.
