Dollar General has developed a reputation for setting up shop in rural communities.

Now, newly released numbers show the company gave back to those areas, too. In a release, Dollar General executive Denine Torr said that the variety store chain donated 585-thousand pounds of food to Virginia’s Feeding America food banks – which includes the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

For context, the Verona-based organization says it can provide four meals for every dollar donated.

The groups Feed More and Feeding Southwest Virginia also received donations through Dollar General, which says it distributed more than 15 million pounds of food across the country last year.
